The Central Axemen’s Association runs beginner-friendly opportunities for anyone keen to step up to the block. We provide the gear, the guidance, and a safe, welcoming environment—just bring sturdy footwear and a willingness to learn.

No Experience Needed
You don’t need to be a logger, an athlete, or have a shed full of gear.
Our “Have a Swing” sessions are designed for all ages and fitness levels. Experienced competitors will walk you through technique, safety, and how to get that first satisfying chip flying.

What You’ll Learn
- Basic safety and stance
- How to swing an axe with control and accuracy
- The fundamentals of underhand chopping
- Depending on equipment, introductory sawing

All Gear Supplied for Your First Lesson
For introductory “Have a Swing” sessions, we’ll provide axes, saws, blocks, safety equipment, and a qualified coach.
You just bring:
- Closed-toed flat sole shoes
- Comfortable Clothing
- Water (you'll need it) and some determination
